Basic Life Support

This course forms part of the care certificate standards (standard 12). In this course, you will get to understand the necessity of acquiring fundamental life support skills, highlighting the significance of CPR and the efficacy of hand-only CPR. Additionally, you will examine the indicators and underlying causes of cardiac arrest. The course will also address the factors leading to an obstructed airway and the appropriate procedures for managing choking incidents in adults, infants, and children.

On completion of this course, you will be able to spot the signs of cardiac arrest and recognize when someone’s in trouble. Then, you’ll delve into the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, which is crucial for understanding how to respond appropriately. You’ll also learn about agonal breathing, a critical indicator that someone might be experiencing cardiac arrest. When it comes to responding to cardiac arrest, we’ll cover the essential steps you need to take, including how to start CPR and other life-saving measures. We’ll also discuss the importance of summoning help quickly and how to do it effectively. Finally, we’ll focus on chest compressions, teaching you the proper techniques to ensure you can deliver them effectively and help sustain circulation until professional medical assistance arrives.
